Free microchipping for dogs - 20th March 2014

The Council’s Dog Warden service is again joining forces with the Dog’s Trust to offer free micro chipping sessions on Thursday 20th March in the car park of Tesco Extra on Eagle St, Accrington. The sessions are open from 11.00am to 3.00pm and there is no need to book, just turn up and join the queue.

Micro chipping your pet gives them the best chance of being identified and returned to you if they become lost or stolen. A tiny microchip is inserted under the animal’s skin, which gives the pet their own unique code. The microchip can be scanned and matched to the owner’s contact details, which are kept on a database.

Cllr Paul Cox said; “The law is changing and from 6th April 2016 micro chipping will be compulsory for all dog owners in England, so why not get ahead of the game and bring your dog along to the session.”

Great Harwood: Out and about around Northcliffe

photo

Milnshaw Councillor and Cabinet member for Waste  at Hyndburn Borough Council Paul Cox joined County Councillor and 2014 Overton Candidate Jenny Nedwell knocking on doors around Northcliffe this week.
Jenny picked up a number of issues, many asking as to what the current plans are with regard to the Sunday Market,
Jenny said “everybody is thrilled with the successes of the Farmers Market and I believe that it will continue to grow. Especially when the fantastic Pennine reach project is complete which will see close to £200,000 spent on the renovation of the entire town square, making more room for stalls the installation of electricity sockets and the relaying of the historical cobbles.
“Great Harwood should be proud to retain its Market Charter.”

Rishton: Lancashire Waste Disposal leaflets not linked to HBC

Leaflets have been posted all over Rishton from a company called Lancashire Waste Disposal which many residents believe are in some way linked to a Concil service. This company and its leaflets are not officially endorsed by HBC or any authority and would appear to be instead from a salvage firm.

The firm is not registered with HBC for collection and requires a licence. The appropriate legal team is now investigating and action will be taken.

Residents must not leave items out on pavements or in back alleys for collection, this is illegal. Please ignore these leaflets as they are handing out bad advice to people and you may end up being prosecuted yourself for flytipping.

Residents are urged to pass this message on to their friends and families.

Commonwealth Day 2014

Monday 10th March 2014 is Commonwealth Day and Hyndburn Council will be participating in 'Fly a Flag for Commonwealth'. There will be a short flag flying ceremony outside Accrington Town Hall on Monday at 10.00a.m. and residents are welcome to come and watch.

UKIP funding in question for European elections

The recent UKIP conference would appear to have ended on a sour note as reports suggest that the major financial backer of the party has not handed over the donation that they were apparently relying on for the forthcoming European elections.

Join the Labour Party from as little as £1 per year

One of the more increasingly common questions asked is how can I help the Labour party? More and more people are keen to get out on the campaign trail, knocking on doors and posting leaflets, plus sending out powerful online messages through Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

There is also the option of becoming a Labour member which involves nothing more than a small subscription. Hyndburn Labour literature is paid for by members out of their own Council salary so every penny counts towards a strong election campaign, plus there are the County Council and General Elections to fight every few years too.

If you would like to help us, or simply donate a one-off payment, please visit the Labour Party website for more details:
