WWI Magic Lantern Tales at Accrington Library - 25th September 2014

Using a real magic lantern projector, poet & broadcaster Ian McMillan and documentary photographer Ian Beesley tell a story of the First World War from the point of view of men who survived it and lived on to old age and a changing world. Here too are the tales of women who worked in the factories that oiled the wheels of war.

We often view war as a series of huge historical sweeps and this show reminds us that war is made by people who each have their own narrative of what happened. Ian & Ian also explore the culture of magic lantern shows - from the natural world to engineering and from small disasters to Empire.

Lancashire County Council's Cultural Services in partnership with Spot On Lancashire, are delighted to bring this magical performance to Accrington Library on Thursday 25th September at 8pm.

Ian McMillan said, "This is a magical evening of slides and words that tell the stories of a war that caught ordinary people in its terrible net; these are timeless tales singing in flickering light."
