• Stewart Scott (UKIP) - 226

Hyndburn Labour announce candidates for 2016

The Hyndburn Labour group have formally selected candidates for all 12 wards up for election in May 2016.

Group Leader, Cllr Miles Parkinson, said, "I am pleased to announce that we have had a really excellent range of people coming forward wishing to stand, from a long-standing teacher to an experienced member of staff at Calderstones. All are standing on a Labour ticket and no deals have been done with any other political group to engineer a result. We will be fighting this election on the back of years of hard work from our 25 Labour Councillors and we hope the public continue to trust us to look after Hyndburn in 2016."

Baxenden: Social Night at old Con Club - 19th September 2015

A charity night in aid of Accrington Victoria Hospital Dialysis Unit will take place on the 19th September starting from 8:30pm at Baxenden Social Club (formerly the Con). This event is being run by Michael Fox, whose father, Gordon, kindly donated a kidney to his niece, Paula Fox after being found to be the only suitable donor without months on the Donor Waiting List.

Michael said "The event is being run for my father who donated a kidney a few months ago and had to use the dialysis unit quite a lot. It's a much needed facility within our community and the staff there are great so its fantastic to be raising money for this cause. I couldn't have planned this event without help, and would like to thank everybody who has been able to make this event happen."

Local resident David Hartley said, "The charity night will also have live music from The Soundcasters, with guest appearances from The Sparkle Sisters. The night will be informal and everybody is welcome! Many local businesses have kindly donated prizes for raffle, and if there are any businesses who wish to contribute then please get in contact with Michael on 07583374610."

Baxenden: David Hartley launches new blog

 Baxenden First is a news page for residents to find out what is going on locally and show the work that the Labour group and its members do in the area.

Labour party member and candidate for Baxenden, David Hartley, will be posting regular updates of activities in the township and forthcoming dates for the diary so that residents can be better informed.

David said, "In the recent local elections, 736 people voted for me which is a good starting point for future years. I personally do not believe that the Conservative Baxenden representatives we currently have engage with the electorate as much as they should and my aim is to put that right. I will stand for election again next year and fight for a better voice here in Baxenden."

Baxenden 2015: Conservative hold

Labour hopeful David Hartley sadly lost the Baxenden local election but secured a respectable number of votes in what is generally regarded as a safe Tory seat. His performance in the election means that Baxenden can now be considered as a target for Labour in future years.

The results were as follows:

• David Hartley (Labour) - 736
• John Bargh (Conservative) - 1,044
• Stuart Scott (UKIP) - 515
• Kerry Gormley (Green) - 62

The total percentage of voters who turned out in Baxenden was 71.05%.

Baxenden: David Hartley helps litter pick on Recreation Ground

An HBC clean up operation in Baxenden on 24th April was given an extra boost by support from the Labour candidate for local Councillor, David Hartley.

David said, "I helped out with the clean up efforts on Baxenden Recreation Ground by litter picking and it went well. Between myself and the Council staff we ended up with eight bags of rubbish and the rec looks a lot better now."

David has been out canvassing for several months and is hopeful of unseating incumbent Conservative Councillor Kath Pratt on May 7th.

Baxenden: David Hartley selected to represent Labour in 2015

David Hartley has once again been selected by the Baxenden Labour branch to be the candidate in the 2015 local elections. David has fought several campaigns in Baxenden in recent years and his hard work has narrowed the gap between the Labour and Conservative votes considerably.

The Labour group have been out campaigning in Baxenden and early responses are very favourable, showing a surprising spike in opinion against the Tories.
