Belthorn: Green bins on the way

Belthorn residents will be able to recycle their garden waste soon, thanks to an innovative partnership between Hyndburn and Blackburn with Darwen Councils, which will see Blackburn with Darwen’s collection team emptying green bins for some Hyndburn properties and Hyndburn’s street cleansing teams sweeping Belthorn’s roads and footpaths.

Welcoming the move, Councillor Paul Cox, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services at Hyndburn Council said; ‘This is fantastic news for the residents of Belthorn and we are proud to work with our partners to keep costs down whilst improving local services.  Developing the opportunity for Belthorn residents to recycle their garden waste has been a key priority and thanks should go to them for their patience whilst we’ve been working on its introduction.”

Councillor Jim Smith, Executive Member for Environment at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said; ‘in the current economic climate, we need to work smarter with the limited budgets we have and work closely with our partners, including other councils.  This is a great example of shared working with Hyndburn Borough Council and the people of Belthorn will see the benefits’.

Don’t forget replacement recycling sacks and blue boxes can be collected from Hyndburn the Council offices at Willows Lane, Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm.
