HBC: New dog warden and vans unveiled

Hyndburn’s new dog warden, Jane Grady, is the Council’s latest addition to the dog warden and pest control team, now patrolling the Borough in dedicated vans.

Along with the other four enforcement officers, Jane will deal with a range of issues from the perennial problem of dog fouling to dealing with stray dogs. The team will patrol the Borough in new, bespoke built vans, fitted with dog cages to enable collection of stray dogs and storage for all manner of graspers, nets and protective clothing.

Cllr Paul Cox, Cabinet Member for Environmental Issues, said, “The majority of dog owners do clean up after their dogs, but it’s just the irresponsible few who refuse to pick up after their dog that spoil things for everyone else. It’s great that Jane is now part of our Enforcement Team, tackling dog fouling and working closely with the police, RSPCA and other partners to tackle problems of dangerous dogs, dog welfare issues and other dog related incidents.”

Cllr Ken Moss, Cabinet Member for Leisure added, “Problem areas identified by members of the public will be investigated by the dog warden for fouling, and this includes parks and open spaces, and the Council’s three cemeteries for dogs off leads. People can also report dog fouling via the ‘Poo dunnit’ campaign, through the Council’s website.”
