Accrington: New bus station to open in May 2016

The new bus station in the centre of Accrington is on schedule to open on 22nd May 2016.

Council Leader, Cllr Miles Parkinson, said, "The new bus station is the first piece of the jigsaw, followed by a full revamp of the Peel Street area. Transport routes through Accrington will be reworked along Blackburn Road and St. James Street to open up traffic flow around town with improved parking and pavements."

The town centre will also see changes in front of the Town Hall and the Council have been working with local businesses to secure funding for major facelift works to key buildings.

Cllr Parkinson said, "The Council have put in for Town Heritage Initiative funding to restore historic buildings and shops and create an Accrington Pals square around the Town Hall and Market Hall. This will make a real feature with buildings lit up in evening and a central hub for community events and festivals."

He added, "This is just one of the many projects we will be delivering in coming years, such as development of employment sites across the borough or improvements to housing stock."
