Accrington: Spring bulbs give a splash of colour

The recently refurbished grounds of St James’s Church in Accrington’s town centre are now boasting a welcome splash of spring colour.

Over 65,000 bulbs planted there last autumn have burst into flower and will create a floral display lasting well into the summer of daffodils, crocus, alliums and the lesser known cammassia. The flowers complement the newly planted trees which are part of last year’s grounds refurbishment, which improved access and seating along with the creation of an events space.

Leader of the Council; Councillor Miles Parkinson said; “The display of spring bulbs complement the recent improvements to the grounds of the church which are an important part of the town centre. The grounds are now much more welcoming to visitors to the town centre and provide an opportunity to relax in a tranquil setting”.

Cllr Parkinson added; “The whole of the borough is looking brighter with all the spring bulbs coming up in our parks and verges.  We’re extremely lucky here in Hyndburn to have a great parks team and lots of community groups whose members rolled up their sleeves and planted thousands of bulbs across the borough last autumn and we’re now seeing the fruits of their labours.”
