Runners
across the region are limbering up to take part in the first ever Ron
Hill Accrington 10k next Sunday, 30 March.
And
world famous Accy lad, Dr Ron Hill himself, will lead the crowds as
they embark on the scenic route - sporting race number 1 – from
Willow Street at 10.30am on the day.
Almost
300 sporty sorts have already signed up to take part in the event,
which is set to become an annual race, but there’s still time to
lace up and join in the fun by registering online at
www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk/10krun
or entering on the day. Follow all the latest news on Twitter - @ronhillaccy10k
Organisers
have secured a raft of premium prizes for participants – and with
more than 70 up for grabs it’s not just winners who’ll be
treated.
First
male and female home will be awarded with a pair of Asics running
shoes of their choice, while winning veterans in various age
categories will walk away with top sporting goodies. There will be
spot prizes on the day too, so plenty of participants will go home
with more than just tired legs.
Open
to anyone over 18, the race is expected to attract huge support from
residents. It costs £8 for affiliated runners to enter, £10 for
unaffiliated and £12 on the day – money raised will go to local
charities Finley’s Disney Dream, East Lancashire Hospice and Derian
House Children’s Hospice.
Cllr
Clare Pritchard said: “Grab your running shoes and join hundreds
pounding the pavements, or simply turn up to show your support for
friends, family and colleagues. We’re gearing up for a day of
family fun, fundraising and miles of community spirit!”
