Improvements to footpaths, entrances, and signage within Clayton Forest Park, which is the area surrounding the rear and sides of Wilson’s Playing Fields, are due to begin this summer.
Cllr Ken Moss, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said, “It’s great news that the improvements to Clayton Forest Park will soon be underway, to improve both access to the woodlands and wildlife habitat. The work will take approximately two months to complete and there will be some path closures during this time. We want to make sure that people keep safe whilst the work is going on, so we ask, please, that people keep away from closed paths and keep dogs on a lead whilst the works are on-going.”
These improvements are part of a £150,000 Lancashire Environment Fund and Forestry Commission funded project by the Council to improve access to woodlands at Clayton Forest Park and Lower Barnes Street, and to make improvements to wildlife habitat. Works carried out so far include coppicing of an area adjacent to the playing fields, and woodland thinning carried out using traditional horse extraction methods.
A woodland activity day for all the family to enjoy is scheduled to take place later in the summer, more details will be available soon.
If you would like any further details of works, or want to become involved in caring for woodland sites in the borough please contact the Trees & Woodlands Officer Phil Johnson, philip.johnson@hyndburnbc.gov.uk
