The recently-formed Switch On Rishton group have been fundraising since
June, putting on fun days and evening events with more planned for the
rest of the year. So far, they have raised around £800 of the proposed
£2,000 per year target for the annual Christmas lights budget.
Cllr Ken Moss and Clare Cleary have purchased 50 collection tubs and 10 buckets so that people can simply donate spare change and these are on display in many of the Rishton shops.
Ken said, "This isn't a Council group and the money is staying with the committee exclusively for the purpose of Christmas lights in Rishton. They have worked hard to raise a lot of money in a very short time. Whilst some shops given an outright 'no' to displaying a tub, the majority have taken one and they are filling up nicely. Thanks to all residents who have dropped a few coins in the boxes so far."
